A person examined at GMSH-16 has tested positive for dengue. According to the Health department, this is the first case of dengue this season.
The samples have tested positive. We will confirm on Wednesday whether this particular case is from Chandigarh or its periphery, anti-malaria officer H C Gera said.
Last year, more than 50 cases of dengue were reported from Chandigarh and adjoining areas. The onset of the disease, doctors say,has been delayed this year, probably because of delayed monsoons.
While malaria is active in summers, dengue flares up after monsoons. There is a likelihood of less number of people contracting dengue this year, a health officer said.
