In the last one year,Panjab University has earned considerable infamy in the media. The matters reached a nadir during the Harvard student controversy recently when several newspapers gave the national coverage to university’s inept handling of the situation. The university now is more conscious in mending its relationship with the media. The newly appointed Director of PU’s Public Relations Department keeps sending emails to reporters congratulating them for “stunningly outstanding stories.” These emails also carry a request to stay connected “as our togetherness may empower and enable both of us to follow the path of truth (satya) and non-violence (ahimsa)”.

No introduction
During a recent seminar, where Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal was the chief guest, the enthusiastic stage compere went about reading Sibal’s bio data and extolling his academic and professional excellence. The minister quickly intervened and said that everyone knew who he was,so instead of tiring the audience with needless introductions he should start the seminar quickly. An amused audience felt deeply relieved.

Silence is golden
Sant Ajit Singh,MLA of Anandpur Sahib, believes that if speech is silver then silence is golden. The Akali MLA has not asked even a single question in the last several assembly sessions. The man has not participated in any debates either. When asked about his keeping mum,the leader said this question had made him aware of his inadequate performance and in future sessions,he would participate more actively.

‘Cool’ voters
The high court Bar association was worried that its elections would not garner sufficient voting enthusiasm so they introduced an inducement of Verka kulfi. All voters were rewarded with a kulfi. Whether it led to any increase in voter turnout is debatable but soon after the voting the entire corridor was strewn with wrappers and leftovers of kulfis.

Cornering the ruling government on the ongoing IPL controversy involving Union minister Shashi Tharoor and his companion Sunanda Pushkar, the BJP activists during a press conference here in Chandigarh, said,“Congress’s slogan that — We are one, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari — is absolutely true; particularly after this IPL expose. It definitely appears that Congress is one, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari”.
