PM re-elected to RS

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,who has been a member of Rajya Sabha from Assam since 1991,was on Thursday elected

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,who has been a member of Rajya Sabha from Assam since 1991,was on Thursday elected to the Upper House for the fifth time after he was locked in a triangular contest for two seats that had fallen vacant from the state.

While Singh got votes of 49 legislators,the second seat also went to the Congress with its nominee Santiuse Kujur getting support of 45 legislators.

The lone opposition candidate,Aminul Islam,fielded by the All India United Democratic Front got the votes of all the 18 legislators belonging to the party.
