VADODARA, Nov 9: The much awaited plan to ease traffic congestion near the railway station will be taken up for discussion in the Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday.

If implemented, it will provide spacious parking for two-wheelers and four-wheelers near the station and shift the local bus terminus closer to the Sulabh Sauchalaya to encourage use of the facility. The bus terminus near the Vadodara Municipal Corporation8217;s ward office will be also be merged with the terminus near Sauchalaya.

Plans are also afoot to make a multi-storied parking complex in the area. This, however, will take time, according to sources.

The road widening and shifting of the terminus is expected to cost nearly Rs 30 lakh.

The VMC took months to make a final plan after deciding to implement the Kolhatkar Plan submitted several years ago. Several rounds of meetings were held with various architects8217; association, leading architects, traffic police and the State Transport Department authorities before the plans were finalised.

The Architects8217; Association had said that if the traffic was made two-way on one side of the road, it would lead to more traffic congestion. According to the Association, even installing traffic signals would not have helped.

City Engineer B K Desai told Express Newsline that the proposal would take about three months to implement after it was passed.
