
PINJORE, JULY 4: The Mango Mela held at the Yadavindra Gardens, in Pinjore, concluded today. Various competitions were organised on the occasion. Even though few visited the Mela during the day, it picked up momentum as the day progressed.
Chief Secretary R.S. Verma, Haryana, was the chief guest on the occasion.Competitions like painting, rangoli and mango quiz were organised for the children. Experts from the department of Horticulture, Haryana, and Punjab and Haryana agriculture universities gave a demonstration on canning the products. A seminar was held for the mango growers, where experts delivered talks on mango cultivation and also replied to queries of the mango growers.
The quot;Chosaquot; variety prizes were bagged by the nurseries at Saharanpur and Nabipur. In the quot;Maldaquot; variety, the Chhachhruli nursery bagged the first prize. The quot;Pinjore Langraquot; variety was dominated by the Pinjore nursery. The quot;Malkaquot; variety won the first prize for the Nahipur nursery, while in quot;Amarpaliquot;, it was a lucky day for the Fatehpur nursery, which also bagged the prize in the desi variety. In the quot;Ratoulquot; and pickle variety, the nurseries of Chhachhruli and Ladwa won the prizes. In individual category of mango varieties, most of the prizes went to Yamunanagar.
The category C included mango products by various institutions and manufacturers. For squash, the Department of Horticulture, Hisar, won the first prize. The department also bagged prizes in chutney, and general mango products that was shared by Triveni Fruit Products, Una. The Pachranga Foods and the Bharat Pachranga Products, Panipat, shared the first prize in pickles. The Pachranga Pickles and Allied Industries, Panipat, won the prize in murabba while the am pappad prize was bagged by Assistant Food Technologist, from Himachal Pradesh. In juice category, the Government Fruit Canning Unit, Bilaspur, won the prize. Prizes were also given for other competitions.
