Mother kills alcoholic son

HYDERABAD: Unable to bear the harassment by her son 8212; a habitual drinker a 50-year-old woman pushed him to a wall leading to his death at Shahinayatgung in the old city late Thursday night.

Police said, the son, Muthiah, used to beat his mother under the influence of alcohol. The woman, in a fit of rage, pushed her son to a wall. Muthiah suffered head injures and fell unconscious. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital where he was declared dead. The mother was arrested.

Gulzar bags Kishore Kumar award

BHOPAL: Film director Gulzar will receive this year8217;s National Kishore Kumar award for his dedicated work in the field of script and song writing. Instituted by the Culture Department of the Madhya Pradesh government the award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh besides a citation. Past recepients of this award include Film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Film actor Naseeruddin Shah.

38 lakh pilgrims visit Vaishnodevi

JAMMU: Over 38 lakhpilgrims have visited the Mata Vaishnodevi shrine in Katra town since the beginning of this year of which two lakh devotees thronged the temple during the recent Navratra festivities alone. As many as 2.57 lakh devotees visited the shrine in the first half of October, officials said here on Friday.

US varsity fair in Delhi from Oct 27NEW DELHI: United States Educational Foundation in India USEFI and Hong Kong-based Institute of International Education IIE will hold a day-long US university fair8217; here on October 27. The fair, in which representatives from 23 colleges of the US will take part, is being organised to help Indian students get authentic information about US colleges. Students will also be able to collect application forms and view books from the institutional representative of each college.

8 ultras apprehended in Assam

GUWAHATI: Eight militants, including ULFA and NDFB, have been apprehended by the Army from separate places in Assam since Thursday. Troops of the 21Mountain Division picked up ULFA activist Romani Nath from Diajhir village in Kokrajhar district on Friday and nabbed another two Ananta Roy and Pradip Roy 8212; from Majpara in the district.
