
Church storeroom set ablaze in Kanyakumari
NAGARCOIL: Tension prevailed in Kuzhithuraiin Kanyakumari district after unidentified persons set on fire the store room of a local church on Sunday night, police said here. Decorating articles and other materials kept in the storeroom were destroyed in the fire, police said. Police pickets have been posted in the area. Earlier, on September 30, a CSI worship shed was set on fire at Malakrishnaputhur in the district.
Police have registered cases in connection with the two incidents. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Magnets can set crooked teeth right
BANGALORE: Malformed teeth can now be set right using magnets and magnetic fields which help to eliminate the discomfort of braces or surgery, according to a study conducted at the College of Dental Surgery CoDS, Manipal. In a study paper presented by Asst Prof Meenakshi Iyer here on Friday, magnetic therapy in ortho-dentistry and dento-facial orthopedics was used on a trial basis toconfirm the validity of using magnetic appliances as an additional corrective measure for malformed teeth and jaws.
Villager killed for practising witchcraft
JAGDALPUR: A man suspected of practising witchcraft was beaten to death by villagers at Kottkameta, about 200 km from here on on Sunday, according to police. The villagers took the extreme step as they believed that Chamroo8217;s alleged practice of witchcraft had resulted in increase in difficulties being faced by them, police said. Police are on the look-out for the assailants.
Four girls drown in granite mine
BETUL: Four teenaged tribal girls drowned in a granite mine filled with water in Bankakhodri village, about seven kms from here on Sunday. Police stated that the girls by mistake had entered the mine while grazing animals. The bodies of the girls have been recovered, police added.
