MUMBAI, DECEMBER 8: Former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Gopinath Munde has said that the Democratic Front government will not have the courage to implement the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission report.

Munde while speaking to newsmen at the Meet-The-Press programme organised by the Press Guild of India here on Wednesday was reacting to the statement made by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh that the State Government will review the recommendations of the Srikrishna report on 1992-93 communal riots and a decision regarding the course of action will be taken by February next year.

He said that the different statements made by both the chief minister and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on the report shows that the government is digging its own grave. Munde said that the law and order situation in the State was becoming from bad to worse with seven communal riots in two months. He said that there was not even a single riot when the alliance was in power.

Munde said that the morale ofthe entire police force in the State is low due to politisation. He said that this is due to frequent transfers of police officers and the lack of freedom given to the police personnel to tackle a crime.

On the power scenario in the State, Munde pointed out that recent decision of the MSEB to increase power tariff by 10 per cent will affect the consumers as well as the industries. He said that subsidies should be given to farmers as well as citizens, to sugar co-operatives etc.

On the Dabhol Power Project by Enron he said that the government cannot cancel the project as transparency has been maintained and global tenders for the project has been invited. Munde ruled out claims by the government that the rates charged by Enron is expensive. He said that in fact Enron is cheaper than the rates charged by NTPC.

On the proposed white paper to show the position of the State economy to be brought out by the government, Munde said that the BJP will bring out a paper to show the work done by the alliance.
