VADODARA, Sept 1: Nationalist Congress Party candidate from the Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency Upendrasinh Gohil has appealed to the electorate to reject both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party nominees as “they had failed to come up to people’s expectations during their previous stints.”

Taking to mediapersons at the Polo Club on Wednesday, he said that not only had power tariffs increased during the BJP’s rule, but power supply had also become inadequate in villages.

He strongly opposed the privatisation of certain Indian Petrochemical Corporation Limited projects by the BJP-led union government and threatened to move court after the elections if the move was not withdrawn by then.

When asked how he would deal with his central party leaders with respect to the Narmada project, which is being vehemently opposed by all political parties in Maharashtra including the NCP, he said: “I will support the Narmada project even if Maharashtra party leaders oppose the dam”.

The former State Environment Minister, who is also chairman of the Baroda Dairy, claimed that he had received a good response from people in several assembly constituencies in the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, but added that he could win only if there was low polling, that is, below 35 per cent.
