Taking backstage

Last year, Vahbiz Mehta-Vachha celebrated the turn of the century by working on 40 fashion shows, in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, with every top model choreographer in the country. The 28-year-old model co-ordinator is most likely to be found backstage at fashion shows being handled by Sangeeta Chopra, Hemant Trevedi, Sharmilla Khanna and Delhi’s Asha and Vidhun. In the last three months of 1999 alone, Vahbiz chalked up 40 shows to her credit.

Around that time, she had quit Star ‘n Style and joined Gentleman. But she lasted there only 10 days. "I had not heard from Asha or Vidhun for a while and then all of a sudden they called me and told they had three shows they wanted me to work on. Everyone thought I was mad to quit my new job, but I really enjoyed working on fashion shows." After that there was no looking back. Vahbiz began getting calls from other choreographers asking her to look after the backstage work for their shows.

And if you are wondering why you havenot spotted her at any fashion show, there is a good reason for that. "I am too exhausted to go out and party after a show." But if you go backstage, you are bound to see Vahbiz, running around making sure that everything goes as planned.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.5%

The Reserve Bank of India Wednesday kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.5 per cent. "MPC decides to keep monetary policy stance unchanged at 'neutral'", says RBI Governor. This is the second time that the repo rate has been kept unchanged.
