JAIPUR, FERUARYB 4: Jammu MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Chaman Lal Gupta lashed out at the Farooq Abdullah government in Jamp;K for the undue haste in adopting the state autonomy report.

Calling it 8220;a political gimmick8221;, Gupta dismissed the demand for autonomy and questioned the legitimacy of the state government8217;s action in adopting the autonomy report. 8220;They did not even discuss the report in the state assembly and are trying to send it to the Centre. What for? First discuss it in the Assembly,8221; he demanded.

Speaking to reporters, Gupta said talking about autonomy or independence for Kashmir was pointless. 8220;We have fought four wars with Pakistan for Kashmir8230;. After Kargil, the world has accepted Kashmir as a part of India. Now if someone again says he wants to go back to 1952 then I think they must understand that much water has flown in the river since then.8221;

Gupta said he was strongly opposed to autonomy. Besides, Kashmir already has autonomy. 8220;Article 370 is a strongprovision. If Parliament makes a law it does not apply to Kashmir. What greater autonomy can be given?8221; he retorted.The minister questioned the right of those raising the demand for autonomy, to do so. 8220;Jamp;K comprises of three regions. Jammu: 27,000 sq km, Ladakh: 97,000 sq km and Kashmir: 15,000 sq km.
