CHANDIGARH, May 9: The Board of Control for Cricket in India8217;s decision to appoint former Test cricketer Brijesh Patel as manager of the Indian team for the forthcoming World Cup has been hailed by the cricket fraternity of the city.
They feel that Brijesh with his vast experience as a cricketer will definitely prove beneficial for the members of the team. With his expertise Brijesh can also bring found memories of the 83 World Cup when the Indian team lifted the title.
Says Arjun, a Punjab University student: 8220;Since Brijesh has been a cricketer himself, he will be able to communicate better with the members of the team. He would also be able to solve the day-to-day problems of the players better than a person who with limited knowledge in the field of sports had been at the manager8217;s seat.8221;
Ashu, another enthusiastic fan had similiar opinion: 8220;An administrator with a sports background will be good for the team. He can motivate the team members in time of distress, which can boost the confidence of the players. A team with high morale can upset the best in the fray.8221;
8220;If the manager of the team has a sound knowledge of sports, it will lead to a better performance of the players both on and off the field. He will also be able to communicate better with the players,8221; said Maninder Kaur, who is glued to the TV set when ever the Indian team is in the contest.
Minakshi Grover, a grovernment servant was elated by the decision of the BCCI to appoint former cricketer as the manager of the Indian team. 8220;Some one who has a wide knowledge of the subject is definately a plus point for the team than a person who is not concerned with sports.8221; She added: 8220;Brijesh as a cricketer knows the practical difficuties the players have to face and would be able to bail them out, if they are stuck up.8221;
8220;Brijesh experience will stand in good stead for the team. Under his guidance the players would not face any problems,8221; said Arvind, another cricket fan.
However, Paramjeet Singh, who is in service was of the view that it is not necessary that a cricketer can8217;t be a good manager. 8220;Team management is different from knocking the ball on the field. The manager should be more flexible and not adamant when discussing important issues regarding the team.8221;
