Follow these expert-approved methods for pigmented lips
"Lip pigmentation is quite common and can be easily reversed using the right ingredients and treatments," said Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta in her Instagram post.

Pigmentation is one of the most common skin-related problems. Pigmentation is when our skin gets darkened patches and spots. Similar to skin pigmentation, lip pigmentation too is a very common problem and both men and women are likely to get affected by it. As per Healthline, “Darkening of the lips can be the result of hyperpigmentation. This is a typically harmless condition caused by an excess of melanin.”
Lips can become pigmented (discoloured) due to a number of reasons including pollution, sun rays, etc. While a few of our habits may make our lips dark and pigmented, we still have ways to reverse the pigmentation.
“Lip pigmentation is quite common and can be easily reversed using the right ingredients and treatments,” said Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta in her Instagram post.
The expert listed the following lip pigmentation reversal methods in the post.

*Use a mild physical exfoliator once or twice a week.
*Wear sunscreen on your lips before heading out during the day.
*If you smoke then quit it. Smoking will only make your lips darker with time.
*Do not bite or lick your lips as it can cause inflammation-induced hyperpigmentation.
*Try creams and serums made using retinoids, kojic acid, salicylic acid, or niacinamide.
*Get intense pulsed light therapy done at an aesthetic clinic.
*Use a chemical peel twice a week.
Dr Geetika recommended doing a patch test before using any cream or serum and consulting a doctor before starting with any treatment.
