The city intimation slip will inform candidates about the city in which their examination centre is located, allowing them to plan travel and accommodation. It should be noted that the city slip is different from the admit card, as it does not contain the exact exam centre address or reporting instructions, which will be mentioned separately on the hall ticket.
JEE Main Paper 1 is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, as well as institutions and universities funded or recognised by participating state governments. The exam also serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is held for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE Main Paper 2 is conducted for admission to BArch and BPlanning courses.
Candidates awaiting the JEE Main city intimation slip and admit card should note that examination centres are allotted based on the cities selected during the application process, preferably within the candidate’s state of residence or permanent address. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will not be responsible for any inconvenience arising from incorrect city preferences submitted at the time of application.
In certain cases, where the number of candidates opting for a particular city or a regional-language centre is below the prescribed minimum, candidates may be allotted a centre in another city, even if it was not among their preferred choices. While every effort is made to allot a centre in one of the selected cities, NTA reserves the right to assign an examination centre in a city other than the candidate’s preference.
The JEE (Main) 2026 will be conducted in multiple modes depending on the paper. Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) will be held entirely in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. Paper 2A (B.Arch.) will have Mathematics (Part I) and the Aptitude Test (Part II) in CBT mode, while the Drawing Test (Part III) will be conducted in pen-and-paper (offline) mode on an A4-size drawing sheet. Paper 2B (B.Planning) will be conducted completely in CBT mode, covering Mathematics (Part I), the Aptitude Test (Part II), and Planning-based questions (Part III).

To maximise total marks on the JEE Main 2026, students need to create a plan that will give them the best opportunity to score well by using predictable high-potential/weight scoring topics. The JEE aspirants also need to also attempt mock tests. Meanwhile, the students have to revise all formulas before they appear for the exam.
The JEE Main admit card will be out four days before the exam. The admit card is the final document for exam entry. The students need to know that any unresolved issue in the city slip should be flagged before the admit card is released
The NTA will not allow changes once the city intimation slip is issued. NTA generally considers the city slip as informational, based on preferences filled during application.
What are the common issues? It could be a wrong exam city or state, an incorrect candidate name, gender, or category, errors in PwD status, a mismatch in the application number, or a photograph/signature.
What candidates should do
Do not panic: The city slip is not the admit card. Minor errors usually do not affect exam entry. You may

Keep proof ready: Application form copy, confirmation page, payment receipt, and any relevant documents.
To succeed in JEE Main, students must focus on developing a smart study strategy rather than merely spending long hours studying. Limited preparation time combined with an overwhelming volume of study material often leaves aspirants confused.
