A fresh bomb threat triggered panic at the Chandigarh District Court on Monday afternoon after a hoax e-mail reportedly warned of an explosion targeting the court complex.

Soon after the threatening e-mail was received, the court administration alerted the police control room. Within minutes, teams from the Sector-36 police station, the bomb disposal squad, dog squad and other security agencies rushed to the spot.

As a precautionary measure, lawyers, court staff and members of the public present inside the court complex were evacuated immediately. The entire area was sealed and turned into a high-security zone.

A thorough search operation was carried out across the district courts. All courtrooms of judges, record rooms, the canteen and parking areas were meticulously checked. The bomb squad examined suspicious spots using specialised equipment, while the dog squad conducted an extensive search across the premises.

Despite nearly two hours of intensive checking, no suspicious object, explosive material or concrete clue linked to the threat was found. Following this, the court complex was declared safe in the evening. However, police deployment was maintained for some time as a precaution.

Notably, this is not the first such incident. A similar threat was received a few days ago, when the sender had claimed that an explosion would be carried out using a drone. At that time too, security agencies conducted a comprehensive search, but no suspicious material was recovered.

A police official said that the police are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. The cyber cell has initiated an investigation into the e-mail to trace the identity and location of the sender.
