NIRF India Ranking 2022 has been announced for 11 categories. This includes overall, university, management, college, pharmacy, medical, engineering, architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), law and research institutions.
The ranking framework judges institutions under five broad generic groups of parameters of Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Ranks are assigned based on the total sum of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters.
The best medical college in India — like in the previous years’ — is All India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi, followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh/
In 2021 too, IIT-Madras retained its number one position in the overall educational institutes and engineering categories. The institute also bagged the second position in the ‘research’ category that was newly introduced last year.

This year, the National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai and IIT-Madras are new entries to the top 10 list at eighth and ninth ranks respectively. IIT-Kharagpur which ranked in ninth place in 2021 is now in the 12th position while IIT-Bombay has slipped from 10th to the 11th place. Read full report here

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay retains its position at rank three in the overall as well as engineering category in this year's NIRF rankings. Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) ranks 7th in the category of Pharmacy institutes and the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) ranks 9th in the category of management institutes across India. National Law School of India University, Bengaluru has been ranked number one in the Law category of this year's NIRF Rankings. National Law University, New Delhi retained its second spot this year with a score of 73.96 and Symbiosis Law School ranked third with a score of 73.73

IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta have retained their top 3 positions in the Management category. IIM Kozhikode has slipped one rank to 5th, while IIT Delhi climbed a rank and earned the fourth spot NIRF Rankings (Management category) this year. Similarly IIM Lucknow and Indore also interchanged their positions this year as IIM Lucknow climbed a rank and IIM Indore slipped to rank 7.
In the medical colleges' category, AIIMS, Delhi bagged the top spot, followed by PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College, Vellore that retained their second and third spot respectively. Check the full list here.

IIT Roorkee has emerged as the top institute in the Architecture category with a score of 83.46. Although National Institute of Technology, Calicut followed IIT Roorkee at the second rank, the gap in their score was of 6.11 as NIT Calicut scored 77.35.

IIT Madras retained its No. 1 ranking in ‘Overall’ category for the fourth consecutive year and in ‘Engineering’ category for the seventh consecutive year.
In the ‘Research Institutions’ category, IIT Madras was ranked second, same as of last year. The institute improved its position in ‘Management’ category, securing 10th Position this year, bettering last year’s position of 13.
Indian Institute of Science topped the research category with a score of 88.62 and was closely followed by IIT Madras that scored 86.38. The 'Research' category was added in the NIRF rankings last year.

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has slipped two places from rank 5 in 2021 to rank 7 this year.
Among the research category, IISc Bangalore remains the best institute this year as well followed by IIT Madras at second place and IIT Delhi at third. The research category was introduced in 2021 and IISc Bangalore had secured first rank in the first year as well.
IIMs have a monopoly in the B-school rankings. IIM Lucknow this year has slipped two spots from rank 4 to rank 6 while IIT Delhi has improved its position from rank 8 in 2021 to rank 4 this year.

Aside from the overall rankings, NIRF also lists out best institutions across another nine categories — college, university, medical, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, and dental. A new category – research was added last year where IIT-Madras had secured the second spot. IISc Bangalore was number one.
The IITs dominated the engineering category by occupying eight out of the top 10 spots.

In 2021, a new "research" category was added to the list. In the new research institutions category, the first rank was obtained by IISc Bangalore, followed by IIT Madras and IIT Bombay at second and third ranks, respectively. IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur secured fourth and fifth ranks.
IIT Madras was ranked as the number 1 institute in India in both ‘Overall’ and ‘Engineering’ Categories in NIRF 2021. IIT Madras also bagged the Top Rank in the ‘Overall’ Category for the third consecutive year and No. 1 in the ‘Engineering’ category for the sixth consecutive year. Congratulating students, faculty members and other employees for their hard work that has resulted in such extraordinary performance, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, said, “We are delighted to maintain our pre-eminent position in the NIRF rankings yet again. IIT Madras continues to excel in teaching, research, and innovation, and has launched several new initiatives to implement the NEP. ”

The NIRF 2022 will be announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a virtual event. Last year, the rankings were too were announced in virtual mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ranking was first initiated in 2016 and since then every year, the government releases a list of top universities, colleges, best engineering, medical, law and management institutes. Last year, the overall category was added where IIT-Madras bagged number 1 position.
