Former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is likely to rejoin the party after the Bakr Eid,which is on November 17. On November 1,SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had revoked Khans expulsion. He had been expelled in May 2009 for anti party activities, particularly opposing the ties of the SP with the former BJP leader Kalyan Singh.
Khan said he has not asked for any post as a pre-condition for joining. I am not a claimant for any post like the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly or any post in the party organisation, he said on Friday.
On November 3,senior SP leader and Leader of Opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav had said he was willing to sacrifice his post to bring Khan back to the party fold.
Khan had said that his decision to join the SP will depend on the stand of the party on the charter of demands to be placed by the four-member committee of the Mashawarati council, for the overall uplift and welfare of Muslims.
If the SP accepts the demands of the committee,I will be bound by the advice of the committee, he said. The committee will meet SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav after Bakr Eid to apprise him of the demands,he added. Khan had announced the constitution of the four-member committee of the Mashawarati council,a political outfit headed by him,the day his expulsion was revoked. The committee was asked to prepare a charter of demands for the welfare of Muslims and considering the SP proposal.
The committee was asked to submit its report within 10 days. The deadline ended on Friday.
Khan,a founder leader of the SP,was elected to the state Legislature in the 2007 Assembly polls on Samajwadi Party ticket from Rampur. In a statement issued on Friday, the committee said it welcomes the reconciliation efforts made by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and wants to bury the hatchet. The date and venue of the meeting between between Khan and the SP chief will be announced after the committee meets Mulayam after Bakr Eid,it added.
