Briefly State : Rival TMC groups clash,11 held

Two rival groups of Trinamool Congress clashed at Sankrail in Howrah on Sunday leading to the arrest of 11 people.

Kolkata:Two rival groups of Trinamool Congress clashed at Sankrail in Howrah on Sunday leading to the arrest of 11 people. According to the police,trouble started after Agricultural Marketing minister Arup Roy visited Sankrail and praised a local Trinamool leader Swapan Bose. This irked the rivals of Bose and they accused him of being extortionist and selling government lands in the past and duping many villagers. A clash broke out between the supporters of the rival groups and police had to intervene. Police had to face a tough time in bring the situation under control and resorted to lathicharge. DSP Howrah Rural Dilip Roy said 11 persons of Trinamool were arrested and are being questioned.

‘CPM leader led doctor to kill self’

Midnapore:The wife of a doctor,who committed suicide by consuming an overdose of insulin injection,complained to the police that an influential CPM leader and six doctors of a local medical college provoked her husband to take his own life. ASP (Hdq) Kalyan Mukherjee said that Shalini Saha,Dr Bikram Saha’s wife,has named CPM state committee member Dipak Sarkar and six doctors of the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. Sarkar had been insisting her husband to work in the Midnapore Paramedical Centre run by a charitable organisation which is headed by Sarkar,police said.

6 kirtan singers killed in road mishap

Krishnagar:Six persons were killed and as many injured when a bus collided head on with an SUV near Patuli in Nadia district on Sunday. All the victims were passengers of the SUV and members of a ‘kirtan’ group.
