Learning to Lead

Management students can find new perspectives in Pune-based Hemant Karadikar’s book,Lead to Regenerate.

Thinking through case studies and imagining how they would deal with situations at work is a common task for management students. So picture this: Anil,a young man in your office,is shy and rarely participated in discussions. He is not entirely comfortable conversing in English and his colleagues often ignore him. What would a manager do in this scenario?

Hemant Karandikar tells the rest of the story. “One day,Anil approached me and pointed to me the test set-up he had put up. He had discovered some major flaws in our system. I brought our other team members together and showed them what Anil had achieved. This changed their perception of Anil.” Karandikar might sound like a natural leader, but his talent for solving problems and getting the best out of everyone comes from 30 years of managerial and consulting experience at firms such as Tata Power and Philips; experience that he now intends to make accessible to every aspiring leader.

In his new book,Lead to Regenerate,Karandikar has compiled lessons, case studies and scenarios on topics such as innovation, business strategy and people management. “The book is based on my experiences and also of the many people I worked with,” says Karandikar.

The book is currently being used as a teaching tool at a university in the US. In India,it is available online and will soon be available at bookstores also.
