PF scam surfaces in Mohali,company MD booked
MOHALI: A scam pertaining to the bungling in the provident fund (PF) has surfaced at an industrial unit in Chanalon focal point near Kurali in Mohali district,the police said on Saturday. An inquiry into the accounts of the company revealed that it had been deducting provident fund from the salaries of its employees but was not transferring the same to their PF accounts with the Employees’ Provident Fund Office (EPFO) in Chandigarh,said Kurali SHO Vijay Kumar. EPFO Enforcement Officer Joginder Ram complained to the police that the inspection had shown that the firm had deducted PF from its employees from April 2009 to December 2009 but did not transfer the amount to their PF accounts. Acting on the complaint,the police have registered a case under Sections 406 and 408 of the IPC against company Managing Director Mandeep Singh.

Bansal visits striking villagers,month-long hungerstrike called off
CHANDIGARH: The villagers,who had been observing a chain hungerstrike at Khuda Alisher for over a month now,broke their fast on Saturday after Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs,Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Pawan Bansal assured them the houses their houses,constructed outside lal dora,will not be demolished. The villagers were protesting against the notices sent by the Administration for the demolition of houses constructed outside lal dora. They also demanded that the Administration should regularise the construction outside the lal dora. The protest had witnessed visits from almost all political parties,who have expressed solidarity with the villagers.
