Pending projects haunt MC

Officials of the Municipal Corporation are busy preparing the agenda for the forthcoming House Meet to be held next week as the status of projects pending for the last five years is to be presented.

Officials of the Municipal Corporation are busy preparing the agenda for the forthcoming House Meet to be held next week as the status of projects pending for the last five years is to be presented.

The Mayor had called an emergency meeting last month to hold a discussion on the various pending projects. While the status of projects hanging fire for the last two years was presented before the House, huge drama prevailed after the councillors termed the agenda “incomplete” and demanded a proper report. The issue was then postponed for the next meet.

MC officials, however, rue that instead of holding any discussion on the projects or putting forth new proposals, the councillors are only adamant about knowing the status of old projects.

“The projects are in various stages of completion. Compiling such information requires time. A substantial part of our working hours is spent on compiling the data. We can either focus on such activities or complete the tasks at hand. Councillors indulge in such activities only to point fingers at us,” said a officer.

Councillors,on the other hand, claim that they need to be updated about the status of the works in order to keep a tab on development in their wards. They say officials must be accountable as certain projects have been pending for the last many years.
