BP cap collecting more oil,but slick spreading
PENSACOLA BEACH: A cap over the ruptured wellhead in the Gulf of Mexico is now capturing more than 460,000 gallons of oil a day,Coast Guard Adm Thad Allen said on Monday in Washington. Judging by flow rate estimates supplied by the government,the cap could be collecting anywhere from 37 per cent to 77 per cent of the oil still gushing out. Allen also said that BP was preparing an additional rig to process recovered oil. The oil slick has stained beaches and marshes in spots along more than 100 miles of coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
Bombers attack Afghan police compound
KANDAHAR: At least three suicide bombers attacked a police training centre on Monday in Kandahar,but the assailants were killed before they could inflict any other casualties,officials said. One of the three attackers managed to blow through a defence wall as he detonated his explosives,said Gen Gul Nabi Ahmadzai,head of police training programmes for Afghanistan. The two remaining bombers were shot dead in a gunbattle while trying to enter ,he said. Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack.
Coleman ex-wife found him in pool of blood
NEW YORK: The ex-wife of actor Gary Coleman,who died more than a week ago after suffering a brain haemorrhage,said she unexpectedly found him in a pool of blood at their home. Shannon Price said in an interview with Good Morning America that aired on Monday: I asked him if he could make me some food and he went downstairs and I heard this big smack. I rushed down there and found him lying in a pool of blood.
Kims eldest son denies asylum rumours
Seoul: The eldest son of North Koreas Kim Jong Il denied rumours that he intends to seek refuge in Europe because of a threat to his life,a South Korean newspaper reported on Monday. Kim Jong Nam said his father was in good health,the JoongAng Ilbo reported. The paper said it tracked down Jong Nam at a hotel in Macau,where he answered a few questions while waiting for an elevator. Meanwhile on Monday,Kim Jong Ils brother-in-law was promoted and a premier who apologised for a currency debacle was replaced in a rare parliamentary session. Kim presided over the session,state-run media reported.
