A travel vlog by a Japanese content creator sparked widespread backlash after she described an Air India flight as “packed with Indians” and labelled the carrier as “bad” in her social media post.

Uploaded on January 17 on YouTube and X, her Air India travel vlog shows Ikechan travelling on an Air India flight, trying in-flight meals and documenting her journey. “Taking the notoriously bad Air India for my first-ever trip to India!! The plane is packed with Indians,” Ikechan said in the caption.

While the vlog has crossed 1.22 lakh views on YouTube, the thumbnail shared on X reportedly amassed over 15 million views.

Screenshots and short clips from the post gained traction, drawing sharp criticism from thousands of users. The backlash intensified due to the caption and an initial thumbnail that users alleged referred to last year’s Air India crash.

“Japan was my dream destination and i had always heard about Japan is that they are very disciplined, very mannerd, and they respect everyone but this girl lost my all respect for Japan and broke my dream destination plan,” a user wrote.

However, some said people should “learn to digest criticism”.

“Indian and japanese friendship lies in the strong cultural and social bond regardless of what they might like or dislike,(vice versa)if she has criticised smthng it doesn’t mean it’s a hate or biased POV,stop taking everything as an attack on yourself, learn to digest criticism,” another user commented.

“The price of being honest,” a third user reacted.

In response to the outrage, Ikechan issued a clarification, stating that she “did not have any strong intentions behind the thumbnail” and that she made a “slight change to the text” after concerns were flagged.

She urged audiences to watch the full video rather than judge it based on shorter clips, noting that she invests significant effort in her content.
