Student found dead in hostel

JAMSHEDPUR: The body of a fourth year student of National Institute of Technology NIT was found hanging at his hostel room in Adityapur,about 5 km from here,in adjoining Saraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand on Wednesday. Vinay Pant,a fourth year student of electrical engineering,was found hanging in his hostel room and immediately taken a hospital where he was declared brought dead,sources said.

Five get life in jail for kidnapping in Bihar

NAWADA: A local court here on Wednesday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment in connection with a case related to kidnapping for ransom and keeping illegal firearms in Bihars Nawada district. Additional District and Sessions Judge P N Singh found them guilty of kidnapping the son of a government employee for ransom and awarded the life-term to them. The five had kidnapped Pramod Kumar,son of a government employee,from Nawada in December 2008.

Child among 4 killed on rail track in TN

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Four persons,including a two-year-old child,were killed and four injured when the Chennai-Mangalore Express hit them while they were crossing the railway track at nearby Mayanur on Wednesday,police said. The four were on their way to participate in a temple festival when the mishap occurred. The deceased included two men,a child and a woman,police said,adding,the injured were hospitalised.

7 killed,20 injured in Himachal accident

SHIMLA: Seven persons were killed and 20 others were injured when a state transport bus plunged into a gorge near Lafali village in Kullu district on Wednesday. The bus was on its way from Ani to Laragi when the mishap occurred 185 kms from here. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered,Deputy Commissioner Kullu B M Nanta said. While six of the victims were residents of a nearby village,one person belonged to Muzaffarnagar.
