NEW DELHI, May 9: Steel Authority of India Limited SAIL failed to scored the required 11 runs in the last two overs for victory against Dharam Pal Satya Pal Group D S Group and went down by four runs in a nail-biting quarterfinal game in the 26th Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial match at the Hindu College grounds here today. Pradeep Chawla remained unbeaten on 77 off 69 deliveries with the help of five boundaries and three sixes for the losers.

Batting first, D S Group reached 257 for nine in their stipulated 40 overs, thanks to man of the match8217; Aashish Sharma8217;s 87. He put on 123 for the second wicket in only 14 overs with opener Rakesh Bhatia 34.

SAIL made a strong reply with Gautam Gopal and Ajit Singh putting on 43 runs from 44 balls. Later, Pradeep Chawla added 44 with Mullick for the fourth wicket while K P Bhaskar helped Chawla put on 39 in seven overs. SAIL lost three quick wickets in the 38th and 39th overs and finally they fell short of the target by four runs.

D S Group will take on Sonnet in the semifinal on May 14. On Tuesday, Indian Airlines play Bright Club as tomrrow will be a day of rest.

ONGC in semis: Yesterday, Oil and Natural gas Corporation defeated Collage Group by six wickets to make it to the final four. Collage were dismissed for 151 in 38.3 overs with Adil Sheikh 43 and Raju Sharma 41 being the principal scorers.

Amit Bhandari 3 for 21, Dinesh Tomar 3 for 33, Rahul Sanghvi 2 for 24 and Pradeep Jain 2 for 24 were the most successful bowlers. ONGC replied with 154 for four in 34.1 overs. Gautam Vadhera top-scored with 49 while Virender Sehwag remained unbeaten on 29.
