PATIALA, June 6: West Bengal and Kerala won their pre-quarter final encounters in the girls8217; section in the 49th Junior National basketball championship, here, today.

Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra registered wins in the boys8217; pre-quarter finals to move into the next round. West Bengal girls beat Delhi 35-28 22-18. R Rakshit 11 top scored for the winners, followed by R Roy 9 and S Pal 8.

Kerala outclassed Uttar Pradesh girls 46-22 38-9. Ranjni Jose starred for Kerala with 18 points. She was well supported by Ambily Thomas 12 and Sangeeta George six points. For the losers, Bhawana Jaiswal top scored with 15 points.

Madhya Pradesh lads beat Tamil Nadu 79-67 37-36. Objeet with 31 points was the star performer for MP, who were also well served by Riyaz 21 and Feroz 14.

In the second match, Maharashtra outclassed Gujarat 80-64 41-30. Apoorv top scored for Maharashtra with 18 points while Onkar 17 and Sambhaj 16 points were equally impressive.
