Aman Gupta, who is the co-founder of boAt, has been associated with Shark Tank India since its first season in 2021, and now five seasons in, he has invested in approximately 100 companies on the show. While a few of the sharks from the first season have stayed on, the following seasons saw many guest sharks, some of whom appear for just a handful of episodes in a season. In a recent interview, Aman was asked if an entrepreneur could pay money to be a shark on the show and he said that while he hasn’t paid any money to the show, he is aware that one can become a shark by sponsoring the show.
In a chat with Humans of Bombay, he said, “I hope Shark Tank India makers don’t scold me for saying this. I think you become a sponsor and there are some sponsors of Shark Tank India who come (on the show).” He added, “It’s been happening for the last few seasons but I don’t pay to be a shark but some of them become a sponsor and then come for a weekend.”
This season, Shark Tank India, has Aman Gupta, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, Vineeta Singh, Kunal Bahl, Amit Jain, Viraj Bahl, Ritesh Agarwal, Mohit Yadav, Kanika Tekriwal, Hardik Kothiya, Shaily Mehrotra and Varun Alagh as their sharks.
Aman Gupta recently stepped down as the CMO of his company, days before the launch of their IPO, and many have been questioning the reasons behind his move. In a chat with Pinkvilla, the boAt co-founder explained that the decision was in the making for a while. “It was not a decision which was made today. Today, you see we are professionalising a company. About three years ago, we brought in an external CEO to run the company. Gaurav Nayyar had joined as COO and is now the CEO. We believe it is high time that professionally run management takes over. That’s our belief—that the company can now be run much better by professionals than by me, and that’s the decision I took,” Aman said.
