DHARAMSALA HP, AUG 30: The Himachal Pradesh police was preparing an advisory for trekkers to ensure their safety which would be sent to all foreign missions for implementation by foreigen tourists visiting the state.

Disclosing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Director General of Police A K Puri said this decision had been taken following the murder of Spanish tourist Maria Angeles Gironeus 35 and her 15-year-old son Cristobel at a trekking camp at Tundaghosh Kullu district last week.

He said according to these rules it would be obligatory for the trekkers to take an authorised guide with them during trekking and inform the police of their trekking routes.

The DGP said that crime had increased in the State proportionate to rise in the population. He said 50 lakh tourists visit the State every year and some criminals have also sneeked into the State. He said there had been a gradual rise of 5 to 7 per cent crime in the State annualy.

Puri earlier inaugurated a women protection cell here which would investigate cases against women only. It will have only women police personnel. Through this cell an accused woman would be provided free legal aid and financial help from the Red Cross society, he added. He said molestation, rape and dowry death cases would be dealt with by this cell.

He said 111 cases were registered against women this year so far in Kangra district against 190 cases registered last year.
