It was more than a year since Anita had had the most bitter experience of her life. She had been betrayed. Betrayed by Rohit, her first love, the only man in her life.

She had fought against the traditions of society, her friends and family to come out as a winner in love, just like she was in every other field. Little did she know that for her man, she was nothing more than an addition to the string of broken-hearted women he had left behind in his past. It was his weakness – making promises he couldn’t keep.

Intelligent but sentimental, Anita understood her man well. She loved Rohit, so she had forgiven him his trespasses. She was determined to make him a more respectable and responsible man with the strength of her love. She had stood by him during his bad times but he had conveniently left her when she needed him most.

When something like this happens, the one receiving the blow, say the woman, loses confidence and trust in others. Often, she gets caught up in anger, depression, self-blame, self-pity, guilt and frustration, even considering putting an end to her life. The family and friends find it hard to tolerate her dark moods for long because they had warned her about the man.

But Anita will do nothing of the sort – she has to come out a winner. She has to put an end, not to her beautiful life but to the hurt. She cannot go on brooding.

A person who is hurt can either become bitter or react positively, becoming more tender, compassionate and sensitive. It is believed that “God uses life’s bruises if we surrender them to Him”.

So, Anita will see a counsellor for guidance. Yoga and meditation will restore the balance in her life. Anita has to form a new self-image with her hidden talents and strength, perhaps by joining culture clubs and widening her social circle. A naive and innocent girl once, she will now become practical and down-to-earth.

She will forgive Rohit and come to terms with her life, accepting the hard fact of betrayal. She will turn this stumbling block into a stepping stone in her life.

Anita understands that Rohit had his reasons to walk out. She will pray to God to “give him the guidance to know when to hold on and when to let go and the grace to make the right decision with dignity”.

Anita has now taken charge of her own life. She will build a beautiful and bright tomorrow for herself, not depending on anyone for her happiness. For her happiness is within her and she has finally found the key to it.

Anita loved Rohit, so she will set him free, because she believes,
If you love someone
set him free
If he comes back to you
he is yours,
If he doesn’t, he never was…
