Public Prosecutors in the state will attend a meeting organised by Maharashtra state Public Prosecutors Association (MSPPA) in Pune on Saturday.

Sources said that on the occasion, public prosecutors are planning to submit a memorandum of their long-standing demands to state Finance minister Sunil Tatkare and Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ramesh Bagwe, who will be present on the ocassion. Before the assembly elections 2009,assistant public prosecutors had threatened to go on strike if their demands were not met.

Sanjay Pawar, general secretary,MSPPA said,“In the 591 posts of assistant public prosecutor in Maharashtra 141 are lying vacant and 58 out of 90 sanctioned posts of additional public prosecutors are vacant. The case is the same with the assistant director post where only 14 posts are filled out of 34 . We also want two assistant public prosecutors to be elevated to the post of public prosecutors. The posts should be created such that there is one public prosecutor for one court.”

Pawar said the decision of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal dated January 7,2010 states that assistant public prosecutors should be paid according to the sixth pay commission.

He said that there are many assistant public prosecutors in the state who have not been promoted for the past 25 years.
