Businessman gets extortion calls,2 held

The Anti-Extortion cell of Pune police crime branch on Wednesday arrested two youths for allegedly trying to extort Rs 2 lakh from a businessman. Police said one of the accused used to work for the businessman in the past. Police are yet to nab their third accomplice.

The Anti-Extortion cell of Pune police crime branch on Wednesday arrested two youths for allegedly trying to extort Rs 2 lakh from a businessman. Police said one of the accused used to work for the businessman in the past. Police are yet to nab their third accomplice.

Police said they received a complaint from the businessman’s brother-in-law. Based on the complaint,a team led by inspector Satish Govekar arrested Rajendra Shankar Fale (20) of Sutardara and Santosh Devram Fale (18) of Shivshaktinagar and also seized the cell phones which were used for making the calls.

“The businessman had been getting extortion calls from unknown numbers since June 23. The caller threatened to kill him and his family and kept saying he knew his family. Scared,the businessman did not step out out of the house for the next two days. His brother-in-law then approached us,” said Govekar.

“We are yet to arrest their third accomplice. He is a criminal on police record,” he added. The investigation was supervised by DCP Rajesh Bansode and ACP Vinod Satav. The team included API Santosh Subalkar,constables Anant Dalvi,Rushikesh mahalle,Balasaheb Jarad,Sanjay Kalokhe,Vilas Gujar,Baba Shirke,Anil Shinde and Chandrakant Sawant.
