Two cricket bookies held from Malad flat

The Malad police along with officers of the Additional CP squad of North region raided a flat in Malad (West) on Tuesday and arrested two cricket bookies who were accepting bets on the Sri Lanka Premier League.

The Malad police along with officers of the Additional CP squad of North region raided a flat in Malad (West) on Tuesday and arrested two cricket bookies who were accepting bets on the Sri Lanka Premier League. The police believe that this could lead them to a much larger betting racket.

The officers laid a trap on the ground-floor flat in New Bansi Park Society and arrested Shailesh Soni and Hardik Sanghvi. They also seized laptops,14 mobile phones and a television set. Soni and Sanghvi used to accept bets from Rs 5,000 to 25,000,said sub-inspector Vasant Patil. “We have checked laptops and found a few names in the list. However,at this stage we will not be able to reveal any names. We will send the laptops and mobile phones for forensic analysis,” Patil said.

The duo will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
