Artist Reha Shishodia’s three-day exhibition at Ave 29 explores the ideas of war and peace. To begin today,it focusses on Gandhi’s ideology. With belief in the power of art as an awareness tool,Shishodia has created artwork inspired by the leader’s vision for a modern,independent India.

Reading Gandhi

Revisit Mahatma Gandhi’s life with the book Mahatma Gandhi and Prema Kantak,Exploring a Relationship,Exploring History. Translated by sociologist Meera Kosambi,it looks at the relationship between Gandhi and Kantak,a known thinker,writer and activist of the time.

The book is available at leading bookstores. A discussion on the same will be held on October 4 at Nehru Centre,Worli,at 4.30pm

High Street Phoenix and Phoenix Marketcity,Kurla,will celebrate the 144th birth anniversary of the the Mahatma. The day-long celebration at the former will begin with a charkha workshop and a book sale by the Gandhi Book Centre. Phoenix Marketcity Kurla is hosting an exhibition of Gandhi’s personal belongings from October 2 to 6. A message wall,storytelling session and a charkha workshop will also take place today.

Footsteps 4 Good,a charity organisation,is hosting a 10km walk and run in Bandra Kurla Complex to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Participants will need to donate a minimum of Rs 2,000 to a charity organisation of their preference. The sponsors will also contribute a sum of Rs 30,000 to the top three winners’ choice of NGOs.

Animal love

Gandhi once said,“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” In keeping with this philosophy,an animal adoption camp has been organised today. The 30 rescued kittens and puppies are of Indian breeds and have been given age appropriate vaccinations.

Imbibing the Mahatma

At Mani Bhavan,the day will begin with a spinning demonstration at 7.30 am,followed by an hour of bhajans and screening of documentaries on Gandhi. A week-long exhibition and sale of khadi products will also begin tomorrow.
