Cricketer commits suicide in Lucknow

A cricketer,who was working with the Lucknow Development Authority on temporary basis,allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan at his residence in Rajajipuram on Tuesday.

A cricketer,who was working with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on temporary basis,allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan at his residence in Rajajipuram on Tuesday.

A suicide note has been recovered in which Sivesh Ranjan Majumdar (32) said he was solely responsible for taking the extreme step. He did not mention any reason behind ending his life.

According to the police,Sivesh returned home in a drunken state Monday evening and went straight to his room. “Next morning,when Sivesh did not come down till 11 am,his father Gopal Majumdar,a retired government employee,went to his room and saw his son hanging from a fan,” said Mathura Singh,in-charge of the Talkatora police circle.

The police said,Sivesh used to drink regularly and had a dispute with his wife Vandana last month. “Subsequently,his wife left the home,” added Singh.

Sivesh had played several district-level cricket tournaments including inter-university events. At present,he used to participate in district-level cricket tournament as a scorer or an umpire. On Monday,he officiated as an umpire in two district-level matches organised at the Raj Bihari Stadium in Arya Nagar.

Sivesh married Vandana around three years ago and had a one-year-old daughter. After Vandana had left him,Sivesh was staying with his parents.
