Cop found dead in flat,colleagues suspect suicide

Chaturvedi told The Indian Express that a constable went to SO Sarvesh Kumar’s flat on the police station premises to wake him up around 7.45 am. He knocked on the door several times but got no response. He informed other policemen who went behind the house and peeped in through the ventilator to see the SO lying dead on his bed.

The SSP got the doors opened and found the SO’s licensed .9 mm pistol lying to his right and a single gunshot wound on his temple. There were traces of gunpowder on his hand and his temple was blackened,confirming that he had shot himself,Chaturvedi said. The doors were bolted from the inside and there was no other entrance to the room.

Sarvesh (38) left the police station around 12.30 am to go to his flat,Chaturvedi said. He had told the policemen that he had a severe headache and was going to rest. The cops present at the police station last night denied having heard any gunshot,he said.

The details collected so far revealed that the SO was depressed for the past few days over some family matter. His wife had been staying with her mother for the past two months.

Sarvesh’s family members,including his brother,travelled to Faizabad from Kanpur this evening and alleged that he had been murdered over some enmity. However,none of them could speak about any suspect or the enmity.
