International Master Dinesh Sharma of Kanpur collected 9 points to emerge champion in the UP State Chess Championship-2010 organised at Kanpur. Shailendra Bajpai of Allahabad occupied the second spot while Pradeep Pathak,also of Allahabad,bagged the third spot. AP Joshua,Deepak Katiyar,Rakesh Agarwal,Kamlesh and Nasir Ali bagged the fourth,fifth,sixth,seventh and eighth spots,respectively,while Raisuddin Khan and Kuldeep Shanker stood ninth and tenth,respectively. About 116 players participated in the championship. According to Lucknow District Chess Sports Association (LDCSA) official,Kuldeep Shanker,the Lucknow players performed well in the championship. Six-year-old Swastik Dehran of Lucknow won the Best Under-15 Player of the Tournament title. Deepak Katiyar of Lucknow has been selected for the National B Tournament which will be played in Bhiwani from September 15 to 28.
Violence mars match
A match of the District Football League was marred by an incident of violence at Dilkushagrounds,Lucknow on Friday. The match was being played between TGFC and New Boys team in which the latter was leading by 2-0. President District Football Association (DFA) Satish Shukla claimed,A TGFC player slipped when he was stopped wrongly by a New Boys player. This irked the TGFC player and he hit the New Boys opponent with his elbow due to which there was bleeding from the latters mouth. Seeing this,the supporters of the two teams also got involved in fighting and the match had to be stopped for about 15 minutes. Match could not be continued due to bad light. Now it will be replayed.
