All for a date
The Delhi High Court last week received several requests for passovers, adjournments and pleas from advocates asking for some more time in filing affidavits in a large numbers. Most of these requests, however, pertained to one particular date December 16. For,the election of new members for the High Court Bar Association had to be conducted on December 16 and several advocates, including senior counsels were busy in the rigours of electioneering. While turning down one such request,Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri said,The court knows why do you (counsel) want any date after December 16. Nothing would change except that the lawyers would be free from election related work.
Boy o boy
People are finding unique ways to have a boy child. And a shocking example of this was witnessed on Monday at the district hospital. A woman gave birth to a girl child through Cesarean operation. When she saw the child after a space of two hours, she cried foul claiming that the hospital authorities had told her that she had given birth to a boy. When the administration informed the family that they would have to file an FIR at the police station to conduct a paternity test, the family left the premises saying they were going to the Sector-20 police station, taking the child with them.
Hosting issues
Kerala is known for harping on about its hospitality sector, but when it comes hosting people invited for an event in the Capital, there seems to be some short comings. Eminent people from Kerala who were in New Delhi for a literary fest earlier this week got a taste of the hospitality after they were almost left without accommodation. The organisers had booked their stay at the Kerala Bhavan, but were in for a shock when several guests who reached the city on a late-night flight on Friday, were almost turned out by the staff at the Bhavan. It was no way to behave with guests. We were forced to complain to higher officials, said an organiser.
Need for top cops
Not only is there a serious shortage of police personnel in the force, but the fact many senior posts are also lying vacant in Gurgaon is shocking. Despite being such a prominent district in the state, important posts like joint commissioner of police and DCPs are lying vacant for a long time now. While there is no DCP (South),the post of DCP (Crime) has been lying vacant for a long time. Even the post of DCP (Headquarters) is vacant and all these posts are being managed by senior police officers who have been given added charge of these.
For the people…
It was a comment on officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) made by a BJP councillor that upset the Opposition. Shouting slogans,Congress councillors halted the proceedings of the House over the remark. Determined not to let them stall the proceedings of the House, the Mayor Rajni Abbi asked the BJP councillor to take back his words. However, despite him doing so,the Opposition remained adamant on disrupting the House, prompting a councillor to remark on time being wasted due to sloganeering. At that point, then Mayor corrected her own party members by saying,A day in a month to work for people who have elected us is not wastage of time and everyone should remember this.
