Bill to amend NDMC Act tabled in Lok Sabha
A bill to give local representatives under New Delhi Municipal Council areas more say in the civic body was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Home M Ramachandran on Thursday. The bill relates to changes in the composition of the NDMC by making the MP of the area its member with voting rights and provides for increasing the number of members from 11 to 12. It also provides for raising the number of representatives belonging to the scheduled castes from one to two.
Court asks govt to admit 874 children
The Delhi High Court on Thursday delivered its first landmark verdict on the Right to Education (RTE) Act by directing the Delhi government and its schools to admit 874 children,350 of them differently abled,mostly belonging to lower strata of the society,in schools located in their neighbourhood without delay.
Govt to test Parliament canteen samples
The government plans to test samples of food served in Parliament canteens. An assurance to this effect was given by Union Minister of State for Health Dinesh Trivedi to Congress MP Rajiv Shukla. Earlier,raising the issue of food adulteration in the Rajya Sabha,Shukla had said he prefers having tea in Parliament without milk as he was not sure whether the food items supplied in the canteens are tested in laboratories to check for adulteration.
