Government to move resolution in the Assembly today, asking municipal body to spend money on allocated works only
The Delhi government will move a resolution in the Assembly on Friday appealing to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) that funds given to it should be spent on works for which the money is allocated following complaints of diversion of money.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said the resolution was necessary as several legislators have complained to the government that the MCD often diverts funds for unassigned works.
She was speaking on the third day of the monsoon session during which legislators from Outer Delhi and rural areas complained that the MCD was not maintaining roads in these parts properly.
Accepting that most roads in rural and outer Delhi maintained by the MCD are in a poor condition,Dikshit said,The Urban Development department gives them money,it is never utilised. The development boards sanction money for roads, the money is never spent. Let us bring a resolution that the MCD spends money given to them.
Demanding intervention from the government, legislators Surender Kumar,Bijender Singh,Devender Yadav,Sumesh Shaukeen,Nand Kishore and Bharat Singh said most arterial roads in their areas were broken, often leading to accidents.
The MCD says it does not have money. The fund given to them under the MLA fund and the rural development fund is never utilised for improvement of roads. DTC does not ply buses in our area because roads are not conducive. The Delhi government must intervene, Bawana MLA Surender Kumar said.
