Himanshu Malhotra learns the UP dialect for his role of a street smart loafer in his new show on Zee
Acting happened to Himanshu Malhotra when the youngster was still focusing on studies. My parents said nothing about my career choice… their only precondition was that I should do MBA, recalls the actor, who was in town to promote his serial Bhagonwali Baante Apni Taqdeer that will be screened on Zee television from next week.
A familiar face on the telly, with prominent roles in soaps like Hum Tum and Aapki Antara,Malhotra seriously considered acting post 2004,when he started receiving complimens for his good looks and was suggested modelling. That was the year when Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj was taking place and I gave it a shot, says the 27-year-old,who never looked back hence, though he did complete his MBA. My folks gave me two years to experiment. I landed myself in a couple of programmes on Zee, adds Malhotra.
In Bhagonwali… the actor plays the role of Guddu Shukla, cast opposite the leading lady Runjhun, played by Nivedita Tiwari. Staying with her oppressive uncles and aunts,Runjhun possesses a special quality of bringing in good luck. The show is set in a village near Lucknow called Kannauj. I play a character similar to Chulbul Pandey of Dabaang. He is your regular street smart loafer who bullies people and pulls stunts, but he has a heart of gold, says Malhotra, who had to get his Uttar Pradesh dialect right for the series. I wish there were simple love stories,in simple Hindi language, but television does not work that way. Something sells and all follow that, adds the actor.
