A Wide Angle

French architect Tiphanie Fievet’s images offer a peek into the lived-in places of her country.

With its mix of modern buildings, contemporary structures and minimalistic interiors,French architect Tiphanie Fievet’s photographs reflect her ability to view spaces in a wide perspective. They tell the story of spaces that have been lived in and experienced. “My pictures portray my love for buildings and the way French like to live,” says the 25-year-old as she takes us through 22 black and white images that mark her exhibition,‘Perspectives d’ Architecte’. Her exhibition is currently on display at the Alliance Francaise.

Majority of her images which are sans human figures, have a rich interplay of shadows, light and reflections. “They have been mostly taken in cities of Nantes and Les Sables d’Olonne,” she tells us,as she walks across to her favourite works, most of which are straight lines, neat structures in steel and concrete.

Fievet tells us she has mostly clicked works which are close to Le Corbusier’s design sensibilities. “Structures that are not complicated and are made to serve the people. They are not boxes that are set up for people to live, they have a purpose,” she says, adding how she has used her camera as a tool to recreate these ambiances and to bring to life hidden corners of buildings. On exhibit is a closeup of a staircase, backyard of a building,a side-view of a glass door. The one with human figures is a snap shot of a busy passage at Nantes.

A graduate from Ecole Nationale Superieure at Nantes, her passion for photography grew once she began traveling the globe. “I realised that photography is a strong medium of expression to bring forth my multicultural experiences with architecture,” she says, explaining the reason behind her collection. “For my maiden exhibition,I chose to showcase the best of my country that too in a city that’s amongst Le Corbusier’s best works,Chandigarh,” she signs off.

The exhibition is on at Alliance Francaise,Sector 36,from May 27 to June 10
