Model code in force,MSU removes alumni meet’s co-ordinator

Following complaints of violation of the model code of conduct and notice from district election officer (DEO),the MS University on Friday removed Jigar Inamdar,a government-nominated Senate member,as co-ordinator of the MSU Parivar Reunion-2013,a alumni meet scheduled to be held on January 3-6 next year.

In a letter dated October 30,district election officer and collector Vinod Rao had asked university authorities to not let any “politically active” person to use his position as co-ordinator of the function for political purposes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections since as this may amount to violation of model code of conduct.

The university today said Inamdar would be replaced by MSU’s registrar Amit Dholakia as the co-ordinator of the function.

“Following the letter from the district election officer seeking compliance with the model code of conduct,we have decided that the task of co-ordinating the function will remain with the registrar,” Dholakia said.

A complaint lodged with the DEO by Rutvij Joshi,a former Senate member of the university, had sought Inamdar’s removal on the grounds that “Inamdar had contested in the last Assembly elections from Savli constituency under BJP banner…he is an active member of the BJP at present and ex-general secretary of the state youth BJP,” and was therefore politically linked.

“In the name of preparation (for the event),personal details of current and former students are being exploited for political gains. In this event, university’s resources are also being misused, which is neither in the benefit of students nor university,” the complaint made to the DEO stated.

Inamdar said he had voluntarily given up the post of co-ordinator of the event till December 17,when elections are scheduled to be held, and will take over after that. “The issue has been raised wrongly as this does no violate any code of conduct. The reunion programme was declared eight months before election dates were announced and we have not invited any political persons for the function,” he said.
