Travelling by train is still the most popular and affordable medium of transport in India. However, travellers time and again complain about poor conditions of toilets or broken infrastructure on trains.

A man, travelling on an Indian Railways train, recently shared a photo of a handle sticking out from underneath his seat as he tagged the Twitter account of Railway Seva.

Mukhtar Ali wrote on Twitter, “@RailwaySeva look at this handle it damaged my butt and trouser sitting in 15036 seat no 29 C2. Please fix this it is so dangerous.” He also shared his PNR number and said, “It’s really painful not able to sit properly don’t know what to do seeking a doctor.”

Railway Seva, the Twitter account that provides support to passengers, addressed his complaint and said the matter has been escalated to the official concerned.

Several Twitter users also complained about the problems they have faced while travelling on trains and the zero response of authorities.

“Indian Railways believes in EYE WASH. Any complaints, details r asked n then nothing, no update 2 d passenger about what happened 2 d complaint. I wonder why. IRCTC staff sells food items at higher prices dan approved. On being asked 4 rate list, they deny. No action against dem,” commented a user.

“This is India sir, they don’t take into consideration these hazards. Just because you tweeted they will respond, the question is will they do safety checks,” said another.

Another user shared a photo of a train’s washbasin, which was in bad condition.

“I had an issue while travelling in sleeper coach. Some people got into the coach and were creating nuisance. They even occupied my seat. I really appreciate the timely response by railways on tweet. In no time an official called me. He came with a constable and sorted the issue,” responded another netizen.
