North India Weather Live News Updates: Air quality in the national capital deteriorated sharply on Tuesday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 413 entering the ‘hazardous’ category. Dense fog and intense cold conditions persisted for the second consecutive day, further reducing visibility and disrupting normal life. Early morning visuals from Kartavya Path showed Republic Day 2026 rehearsals underway amid thick fog, with extremely low visibility conditions.

Himachal’s Dry Spell: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing its driest December on record, with a 100% rainfall deficit so far. While high altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti received light snowfall on Sunday, it was insufficient to end the prolonged dry spell. Kukumseri recorded the lowest temperature in the state at minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while Shimla remained relatively warm at 11 degrees Celsius, nearly five degrees above normal. The meteorological department issued a yellow warning for dense fog in parts of Bilaspur, Una and Mandi districts between December 22 and 25, while dry weather is expected elsewhere in the state.

Snowfall Warning: While snowfall in Kashmir marked the start of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the region’s harshest winter phase, Srinagar recorded its warmest night of the season at 4 degrees Celsius. In Punjab and Haryana, fog significantly reduced visibility, with Narnaul in Haryana and Gurdaspur in Punjab recording the lowest temperatures in their respective states. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy snowfall, rain and snowstorms in higher reaches of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and northeast Himachal Pradesh till Monday.

Northern Railway introduces 'scratch rake' to curb fog-related delays in Jammu division

Amid fog-related disruptions over the past many days, the Northern Railway's Jammu Division has arranged 'scratch rake' to minimize delays in train operations and to ensure passenger convenience during winter months, an official said on Tuesday.

The significant decision has been taken on the directions of Divisional Railway Manager, Vivek Kumar, the official said.

With this facility, it has been decided to provide a scratch rake or additional rake for Train No. 12414 (Jammu Tawi-Ajmer) and Train No. 22478/22477 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi-Katra) to compensate for delays in their departure and arrival, the official said. — PTI

Minimum temperatures in Bengal to fall by 2 to 3 deg Celsius: IMD

Minimum temperatures across West Bengal are set to drop by two to three degree Celsius from Wednesday, the IMD said in its forecast that is expected to bring joy among people planning celebrations during Christmas.

Dry weather will prevail across West Bengal during the next seven days as shallow to moderate fog is likely at one or two places over all the districts of the state till Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

It said that minimum temperatures will fall by two to three degree Celsius over two days from Wednesday across all the districts of the state.

The Met said that the hill tourist town of Darjeeling recorded the state's lowest temperature at 6.2 degree Celsius.

Alipurduar was the coldest place in the state's plains at 10 degree Celsius, it said. — PTI

Delhi Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa on Monday said strict enforcement measures under GRAP-IV have yielded positive results, even as the national capital continues to reel under adverse weather conditions due to a western disturbance.

Addressing a press conference, Sirsa said the weather in Delhi has remained "very bad" over the past few days, prompting the government to impose stringent restrictions.

"For the last four days, restrictions under GRAP-IV have been in place and we have seen good results," he said.

Warning polluting industries, Sirsa said that sealing action has begun against identified violators.

"The polluting factories we have identified will be sealed without any further notice. They have already been given several chances," he said. He added that industries which failed to apply for OCEM by the October 31 deadline would also face immediate sealing.

The minister informed that a massive drive is underway to check vehicular pollution.
