The BJP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) ruling alliance secured 32 of the 50 seats in the Goa zila panchayat elections, the results of which were announced on Monday. The Congress won 10 seats, while its ally, the Goa Forward Party (GFP), secured one.
The BJP emerged with 29 seats and the MGP with three. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retained its lone seat, while the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) won two seats. Four independents were also elected. The polls, held on Saturday, recorded a turnout of 70.8 per cent — the highest since rural body elections were first conducted in the coastal state in 2005.
