The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Wednesday released its manifesto for the Karnataka Assembly polls scheduled on May 10. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party issued a list of 61 ‘guarantees’ under different heads, to be implemented if the AAP is voted to power in the southern state. The manifesto was unveiled in the presence of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

The party has promised 300 units of free power for domestic users, better government schools than private schools, free city bus transport for students, mohalla clinics, generating up to two lakh new jobs per year, Rs 3,000 unemployment allowance till a candidate gets a job and 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs.

Singh said that the party will fulfill its assurances of curbing corruption as Karnataka has attracted a bad reputation of having a ‘40 per cent commission’ government. The party has also promised to strengthen the Lokayukta by sanctioning the budget required to run the anti-corruption body.

Under the ‘Guarantees for Education’ segment, the AAP promised government guarantees to banks for higher education loans, fee committees to fix and regulate private school fees, and permanent jobs for contractual teachers. The assurances in the healthcare sector include setting up 10 model polyclinics on the lines of Delhi and a super specialty hospital in each Assembly constituency.

For women, the AAP has promised free city bus transport and an ‘empowerment allowance’ for every BPL woman above 18 years. The party said that it would repeal the three farm laws, provide a minimum support price based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee, and grant a one-time loan waiver for small farmers.

Under the ‘Guarantee for Jobs and Employment’, the AAP has assured 80 per cent reservation in jobs for locals, filling all government job vacancies, implementing the seventh pay commission, and reversing the new pension scheme to the old pension scheme for government employees.

Karnataka AAP president Prithvi Reddy said the assurances when implemented would help families save Rs 8,000 to 10,000 every month. “Voters can sue us if we don’t fulfill the guarantee,” he said.
