Over 2,750 police personnel to be deployed for Amit Shah’s visit in Panchkula

Ahead of the proposed visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Panchkula on Wednesday, the district police has put in place elaborate security arrangements.

In this regard, a high-level security review meeting was held on Monday evening under the chairmanship of Panchkula Police Commissioner (ADGP) Shivas Kaviraj at the GO Mess in the Police Lines.

An official said that as part of the security deployment, a sea of police force has been mobilised. A total of 10 officers of SP/DCP rank, four Additional SPs, 41 DSPs/ACPs, 90 inspectors and around 2,750 police personnel will be deployed to handle security duties during the visit.

Additional police force has also been drawn from various police ranges, commissionerates and districts across the state to strengthen the arrangements, the police official added.

Police Commissioner Shibash Kabiraj has issued detailed guidelines regarding venue security, route plans, parking arrangements, traffic regulation, crowd control and emergency response mechanisms. The emphasis, he said, would be on coordination, alertness and swift response at all levels.

DCP (Panchkula) Srishti Gupta has been appointed as the overall in-charge of the entire security arrangement and will supervise and monitor all preparations related to the Home Minister’s visit.

During his stay in Panchkula, Shah is scheduled to visit several key locations, including Tau Devi Lal Stadium (Sector 3), Inderdhanush Auditorium, Shivalik Country Club, Mansa Devi Temple, Atal Park Mansa Devi and the Panchkamal BJP office. In view of the multiple engagements, additional security measures have been put in place at all these venues.

Traffic advisory issued

In view of the high-profile visit, the district administration and police have issued a detailed traffic advisory and appealed to citizens to cooperate and follow the prescribed routes and parking arrangements.

Sharing the details, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Manpreet Singh Soodan said that special traffic measures have been put in place in view of the Home Minister’s programme at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, and other related events.

On December 24, from 12 noon till the conclusion of the programme, general vehicular movement will remain restricted in these areas —- from Singh Dwar Light Point at Mansa Devi via Old Panchkula to Tau Devi Lal Stadium, from Sector 6/7 Light Point via Shalimar Chowk towards Sectors 8/9 and 9/10, and from Singh Dwar to Kohni Sahib Gurdwara (via Sai Dairy) and from Dolphin Chowk towards Panchkula.

Advisory for Chandigarh Commuters

Commuters travelling between Chandigarh and Panchkula have been advised to use internal city routes via Housing Board through Sectors 17/18. The Chandigarh–Panchkula route via Saketri will remain closed on the day, and commuters are requested to use alternate routes.

Those attending the programme at Inderdhanush Auditorium have been advised to park their vehicles at the designated parking area near the Dharna Site, Sector 5.
