This is to promote a healthy spirit of competition among the cities. He announced Mysore, Karnataka, as the cleanest city in the country and the other nine cities were Chandigarh, Tiruchirapalli, New Delhi Municipal Council, Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot, Gangtok, Pimpri Chindwad, and Greater Mumbai. Cities with over 10 lakh population were surveyed to check how clean or filthy they were. The Swachh Sarvekshan website has been launched.

Hanamanthappa was rescued alive from under 35 feet of snow six days after his post in Siachen was hit by a glacier.
