Before BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi sets his foot in Uttar Pradesh for addressing a rally in Kanpur on October 19,Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has decided to get into proactive mode. COURSE CHANGE
Holding its first meeting after the ouster of Prof Yogendra Yadav, the University Grants Commission UGC has been quick to brush aside an issue that Yadav had been raising in a big way on rewriting the minutes of some meetings to record dissenting views. The Commission has ruled that minutes will only record the final resolution of an issue and not divergent views. There is also a virtual gag order issued to all members, and only the UGC chairperson and secretary are authorised to talk about the deliberations.
CASHING IN
Applications for Information Commissioners posts in Uttar Pradesh has become a bit expensive. The state government recently notified vacancies of eight Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission and applicants will have to pay Rs 2,000 each as application fee. Appointments to these posts were stuck for over a year due to a Supreme Court order regarding appointment of a certain number of Information Commissioners from judicial background. That order was later struck down by the Supreme Court. Considering that a large number of people may apply for these vacancies, the provision for fee was made.
