The list, issued by the party’s central office Tuesday, includes Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, his son and MP Shrikant Shinde, along with a line-up of senior ministers, MPs, MLAs and party functionaries.
Besides Govinda, the party has roped in veteran leaders Ramdas Kadam, Gajanan Kirtikar and Anandrao Adsul. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav and Cabinet Ministers Gulabrao Patil, Dada Bhuse, Uday Samant, Sanjay Shirsat, Prakash Abitkar and Pratap Sarnaik will also campaign for the party’s candidates. Deputy Chief Minister Shambhuraj Desai and Ministers of State Ashish Jaiswal and Yogesh Kadam are part of the list.
The campaigners’ panel also features MPs and MLAs such as Deepak Kesarkar, Sandipan Bhumre, Naresh Maske, Ravindra Waikar and Milind Deora, as well as party spokespersons and office-bearers, including Sanjay Nirupam, Rahul Shewale, Deepak Sawant and Shahaji Bapu Patil.
Also included are Akshay Maharaj Bhosale of the Dharamveer Spiritual Sena, minority department leader Sameer Kazi and national spokesperson Shaina N C.
The announcement comes even as seat-sharing discussions with the BJP are still underway.
The civic polls, covering 29 municipal corporations and 2,869 seats, are seen as a crucial test for the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, marking its first major municipal election after the party split in 2022.
As many as 2,869 corporator seats across 29 major cities are being contested. Approximately 3.48 crore voters are eligible to participate, with over 39,000 polling stations across the state. The elections cover prominent bodies including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The major alliances include the ruling Mahayuti (BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and NCP) and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP)).
These elections have been pending since early 2022 due to various factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic and legal disputes over ward delimitation and reservations. The counting will be held on January 16, the day after the polling.
